A cellular Apple Watch may support more phone-free tasks when it has an active compatible plan. A GPS-only model can still be useful for downloaded audio and other supported offline tasks, but it does not gain cellular service from the case.

Wrist Detection Is a Choice, Not a Requirement

Apple Watch is designed primarily for wrist use. When you place it inside RePod, you can keep Wrist Detection on or turn it off depending on how you plan to use the Watch.

If Wrist Detection remains on, the Watch may lock after it is removed from your wrist. If it is turned off, Apple Pay requires a passcode when you authorize a payment, and some Activity measurements, heart-rate tracking, notifications and automatic emergency calling after a detected hard fall are unavailable. Battery Life Still Depends on the Watch
